Arbiters' Ambition Recruitment Thread
Your Journey to become an Arbiter

No harm's done to history by making it something someone would want to read. - David McCullough

In a game where every player plays in the same universe, everything anybody will do has permanent consequences. Every action changes the world for the rest of the playerbase. In a shared universe, we share a common story, and looking back at this story, you look back to the cumulative history of Starbase that its players have created.

The Arbiters’ Ambition has committed itself to the effort of shaping this collective story and guaranteeing a compelling outcome to any event. We pose as a wildcard in wars, diplomacy, economy and creativity, involving ourselves at the forefronts of the major developments of all areas. Willing to do whatever it takes to create unexpected and astute conclusions, we form a powerhouse that is constantly battling for its cause with all means necessary.

A unique way to play - How we work
Structure & Organization

To pursue our commitments, we developed a decentralized system focused on independence, efficiency and cooperation.
Establishing an affluent faction, we take action when we see the opportunity and pursue our goals with absolute dedication.
A student-mentor concept and a simplistic rank system based on seniority and meritocracy is integrated at the core of the faction to ensure a fun and productive environment for the players.

Sections - A home to your profession

Sections make up the Ambition as a whole, each lead by two players who form a duumvirate of Praetors. Sections have their own specialty in terms of gameplay, some focusing on production, others in resource gathering, different kinds of military, logistics, trading or any other fields of gameplay Starbase allows. The more the Ambition develops over time, the more Sections may be added, merged or split.
While each Section has a focus, they are ultimately largely independent entities in which players work together, presenting the first layer in the chain of decentralization.
Due to their dynamic nature, being part of the Ambition provides a different experience every day. By joining a Section that specializes in your main interest, you can do what you like most, while also finding diversity in activities. We believe in the potential of every member that joins us and don’t want to lock anybody in specific roles.

Units - Meet your team
Within Sections, players form multiple Units in which they work closely together. Among them is always a higher-ranking member with the Rank of Tribune, assuming the role of the Unit manager, responsible for coordinating tasks and activities within the Unit. A Tribune may receive tasks from the player above him in the hierarchy to split these up among the members of his unit and himself. That way, players of Units are distributed objectives to work on continuously.

Beyond that, Units serve the purpose of creating close, social environments, as members within a unit are constantly working and playing together. When creating units, we take into consideration nationality, timezone, and preferences to make sure you are grouped with people you’ll enjoy playing with.

The Administration - Maintaining the machine

The Administration is the place where decisions and plans are made. It consists of every Sections’ managers, the Praetors as the main force, and the Archon who acts as legislator. The Administration decides on overall strategies and thus defines the tasks each Section will need to handle, but they are also the instance to face when you have feedback, questions or you want to talk about specific topics.

If you are the career-focused type, know that the Assembly is made to be infinitely expandable. Should you be looking to lead not only your own Unit, but also your own Section and become part of the Ambition’s management, we’re glad to grant you the chance if you prove yourself.

Merit system - Get what you deserve

As the Ambition is structured as a meritocratic system, every individual’s success is honored.
To keep track of it, every Arbiter has an assigned Merit value based on activity, dedication and achievements which collectively make up a Unit value. This value will be put into relation with a global average, dictating a priority for each Unit, making Merit value an important factor in how resources and assets are distributed, i.e. who has which ships, material or machines available.
Direct rewards may include private facilities or specialized equipment created exclusively for indivídual Units and members, dedicated Discord channels, promotions, priority within the faction or special tasks.

Ultimately, the aim of the Merit system is to utilize reward mechanics to develop individual units and players into more autonomous and successful entities, resulting in heavily specialized, experienced teams, expected to form their own Sections over time.

The Arbiters’ Custom - A matter of honor
Community & Mindset

In the Ambition, we aim to build a mature community where you can enjoy yourself with old or newly found comrades and play the way you want. Enjoyment is our top priority. What is important to us, how we conduct ourselves and where our priorities lie is written in the Arbiters’ Custom, a code of honor that defines our values and answer these questions.

Reasons
Despite ultimately taking all possible options into consideration, Arbiters are people with strong principles which guarantee that there’s a basic set of rules to keep the faction focused on its targets in an organized manner. Ruthlessly battling through the playerbase will make the faction an enemy to everybody and create chaos, limiting the our potential to take action.

The code of honor dictates equal respect for both allies and enemies we faces. An Arbiter stays humble even in the face of the greatest victory and loyal to the cause even in the greatest defeat.

The community pillars
Our Custom is built upon three key principles which help to form an identity as community. They present the foundation of every action taken in the game and decision made in the Ambition.

Respect - Due regard for a person’s aspirations, rights and achievements. In the Ambition, we pay respect to those who work to earn it.

Honor - In modern concepts replaced by decency or manners, honor describes the relationship between an individual’s qualities and a society's demands. We want to be sure of our worth and value doing what needs to be done.

Liberty - The power and scope to act on a desire. The aim within the Ambition is to keep as much liberty for us, our members and partners as possible. Paradoxically, the price for more power is all too often liberty.

Passing the trial - The way to become an Arbiter
Recruitment

In the Ambition, we emphasize building a faction where members know each other and share common ideals. To form a capable faction, we require capable members. Through a standardized recruitment process, we aim to ensure our ranks consist of loyal, adept partners. That is why every aspiring Arbiter undergoes a trial where they learn what it means to be an Arbiter and can find their place in our community.

First steps
Your Trial starts by becoming a Seeker on our Discord server after you’ve sent an application from our website. The early stage consists of getting to know each other, so your application creates a basis on which we can learn about you and plan your Trial. Depending on your application and our initial impressions, the duration may vary, but we will try to give you a precise maximum duration we believe we need to get to know you well enough.

Course of the Trial
As Seeker, you will be placed in a Section we believe you fit in, where players are available to show you the ropes. Step by step, we will give you tips and skills that ensure you'll become a capable and informed member who knows the intricate details about your profession. Your Trial ends once your supervisor gets the impression you know the faction, the faction knows you and you will become a valued member. The last requirement is a personal talk with any Praetor, Tribune or your supervisor at any point, so we can confirm you meet the requirements

As a member
After your time as Seeker, we will welcome you as confirmed and trained Executor once you have taken your code of honor. You can choose what Section to be part of and request joining a specific unit if you found friends during your Trial. Together with your new comrades, you are free to play and progress within the Ambition the way you want.
