  1. Space combat is primitive?

There was no name calling in that, merely an observation as there are quite a lot of videos and other media available of Starbase that you could have watched to come up with ideas. The most basic ones that comes to mind is to use a cargo lock frame hidden behind doors and loaded with whatever...
  2. Space combat is primitive?

In case of Elite they complain about how unimaginative some ships are though, like the Type-10. Anyway, if you want to make combat in your own ships interesting for yourself then build them that way, you can even design your own modules and operate them with YOLOL code. It is kind of your fault...
  3. Space combat is primitive?

EVE Online is a point and click game where you just tell your ship what to do but have 0 direct control, yes the advertisements for the game directly hide this "little" fact while showing flashy maneuvers as if it was a space sim. Yes it may have more tactics as in more modules to use during...
  4. This Game is Missing Something Crucial

In all the games that you have mentioned the players have a very limited way and scope to interact with the game world itself. Those games survive by providing content packs as there isn't much else to do in them. Better sandbox games like Minecraft or Space Engineers provide players a lot more...
  5. The Problem with Capital ships...

I dunno, if two military capitals meet do they go into combat/siege mode or if they can nullify the shields of the civ caps But afaik you are not forced to stay there and bend...
  6. The Problem with Capital ships...

Ha-ha! But you cannot touch my warpgate that has a station strapped to it which looks convincingly like a ship (but isn't actually one)!
  7. Away with thruster walls.

In my opinion the max speed should be the same for all of the ships. The thrusters should only affect the acceleration of the ship along the thrust vector.
  8. Poll: Camera

I think the easiest way to balance cameras would be to limit the FoV (roll up a newspaper or magazine and look through that) as you rely a lot on your peripheral vision in combat. In my opinion the fear of Borg cubes is a bit blown out of proportion as in the offending games (like Empyrion...
  9. Your Local Spaceship Inspiration Den

Nice, I always have issues with the "aesthetics" part of the design process. Those artworks will help a lot.
