    Magic

Magic in Sci-Fi, when done right, can be incredible, yeah. But I don't think it has any place in Starbase's extremely mechanical, robotic, and engineering-focused take on the genre. In a game where even the players themselves are engineered machines made up of devices, and the core focus is on...

"The game world itself is too big, too empty and too boring", and other stories about how sieges and capitals themselves ain't the saving grace.

Yeah, because nothing says fun like designing a single spaceship for 2 weeks, losing it, and then having to design the same ship over again. One mechanic is hardcore, so every single mechanic must be hardcore? Even when 90% of that mechanic's use boils down to "tell lever to make thruster go...

How do you role-play in the Architecture?

From what I can tell, the general concept of what an Endo (the robots we play as) is among the community is mostly a 3-way tie between 1: Endos are robots left behind by humans. 2: Endos are robots containing and operated by uploaded humans. 3: Endos are remote controlled by far-away humans...

Only a dream? An endless Universe like Elite Dangerous

Currently the universe consists of one gas giant, the asteroid belt orbiting it, and its 10 moons. Beyond that there isn't really anything to see, just empty space. The dev's plan is to add in more planets, moons, etc as they're needed. So once most the moons start being populated and the...

Kind of crazy to think there's only two more CA progress notes left now. Great progress guys!

    The downfall of Starbase

So a "simple fix solution" wouldn't count as a "quick fix?" What's the difference between those two, then? Can a fix be needlessly complicated AND quick at the same time? And if you want to talk about twisting things, how about your complete twisting of what a "closed alpha" is? An alpha phase...

    The downfall of Starbase

You're right. TLDR; Game ain't finished, you ain't paid, you signed up knowing it ain't finished, wait for this stuff to actually be implemented before saying it all sucks. Thank you for coming to my TLDR talk.

    The downfall of Starbase

Eh, i don't got anything better to do right now. Sure, why not. Steam => Starbase description: "Starbase is a hybrid voxel/vertex-based space MMO with a fully destructible and infinitely expanding universe, with a focus on building and designing spaceships and stations, exploration, resource...

    Ship combat is missing something

This isn't about good vision at this point; all the signs of something getting hit are very obvious assuming you aren't 5 kilometers away from the target. Of course you can't notice any you if hit anything or not, I don't even think you can properly see the ships themselves that distance. The...

    Ship combat is missing something

If you spent an hour and a half in the combat event, and never got direct confirmation you hit a target, and at no point thought to tweak your aiming behavior, that is on you, not the weapon. You tell if the gun worked or not and how well it worked based on if the target is still moving or not...

Clarification about dev faction blueprint sharing (don't do it)

First the social engineering policies, now this? I'm noticing a pattern here, and I'm not sure I like it. Alright, so right off the bat this poses a pretty big dilemma; Kingdom and Empire now have clear advantages over all other factions. They're potentially immune to espionage for one thing...

    Starbase Community Hypevan Send-Off

Flew to the moon, wanted to land near the moon city and "drive" over. Hypevan crashed. Was fine enough at first, just a wheel, but then it started dragging itself along the lunar surface and the front came off. R.I.P. Hypevan.

    H u n t i n g?

That sounds really fun tbh. Emergent gameplay is always good. Most the other problems are things that could be solved later. Give space fish specific regions they spawn, with especially problematic ones being rarer. Make them respawn in these regions like any other game. You could implement...

Steam Store Page May Need an Update

Kind of ironic to see the guy with "developer time is not infinite" in his quote cracking jokes about a delay. Besides, even the devs themselves were kind of unsure about the date. I'm just happy to see they're still trying to make a good game, delays are sad but better than what some companies do.

Starbase Progress Notes: Week 45 (2020)

That's a nice armor set you got there, can I have it? On a more serious note, those crystal asteroids look amazing. Love to fly through a field of those, or maybe even through a hole in a big one.
