I propose that things like hinges and turntables are to have a passthrough route for wire.
On a hinge, it can be done by having one side of the hinge have two inputs, while the other has an output. All this does is have one input power the hinge itself, and the other one will be input for passthrough. Having something like this would allow us to build 2-step doors (ones that bend around 2 or more corners, but can unfold into a straight line), interesting-shaped doors and many more things that my limited imagination can't reach. Same thing could be done for the turntables and the sliding hinges.
This wouldn't give the developers the trouble of needing to accomodate for rotating engines so long as all thrusters need some sort of fuel, because the passthrough I'm proposing is limited to WIRE only, not pipes.
