Free Base is an open place for all individuals, factions, ships and groups to dock, trade, issue missions, recruit and do whatever social activity they want. The Base is not meant to be in control of any particular alignment or faction but will take effort to ensure it's own survival if it ends up in a particular faction or group territory.
You are encouraged to join the various teams or focus areas that the Base has for experience, but please be aware that the Base will never expand to a 2nd station or commit to offensive action.
People are free to join staff positions to gain experience, and later leave with that experience and perhaps some friends they've made to join a faction or group they got recruited to... Or start their own adventure... We don't mind users being in multiple teams, in fact, that's encouraged. We do however limit leadership positions to one per user.

The command of Free Base requires good leadership, diplomacy and a vision for the future. Along with this, they need to be able to get informed of issues and deal with them in a timely manner to be effective.
Some people like sharing and creating content, both in-game and outside. We want to have a place for creative people to find and share news, to inform new players of our station and keep everyone up to date on recent events. For that, we have the Broadcasting Channel which can be seen throughout known space.
The community needs fresh recruits and new minds. We need growth to maintain a positive space around us, and to accomplish that we need to have a good way for new players of Star Base to be introduced to the game. The Space School will receive, recruit and enrol new players and teach them all about Star Base. With the Cadres help, the trainees will receive lessons on all aspects of Star Base using Free Base as a tool to teach the players about the game.
How do we build it, how do you make it work? For that we need engineering. The group is responsible for producing weapons, devices, tools, and spaceships. They are also in charge of the programming of Free Base infrastructure and ship computers.
Mining, hauling, and refining. Someone has got to do it. The gritty job of getting minerals from the mine site, or moving whole boulders for processing. In either case, it's a simple idea but a complicated task. The Material Coordination is responsible for storage, acquisition and refining of resources. This includes trading and mining.
Ships need docking, refueling and restocking, in the Base Operations, you will be working on the coordination of our station space. Docking procedure and general maintenance, repair and construction of new station structures.
The defense and escort of our assets are of vital importance to ensure we have a credible threat and response to any challenge or attack. The Fleet Command will maintain our assets in space, both in terms of training and staff but also ensure all ships are operational and ready to respond. Escort missions will most likely be the most important as resources become more and more scarce, we have to venture farther and farther for it.
