For the people who dont know about gas refinery there is videos on youtube about it. It's a massive processing work which need a lot of things in order to process the gas and it's definitively not a little building. Imagine it being destroyed with holes everywhere from people who didn't want to loot anything because they just wanted to destroy it. After the first one destroyed trust me the majority of people wont even try to build a second one. The game definitively need autoturrets for *Playermade* building/infrastructures/stations in order to at least have something to defend it from griefers/looters. Thats where either NPC's come in or AI for autoturrets and stuff like that. To warn people not to enter the private terrain unless an authorisation is given, hologram projectors could be placed to announce a shoot on sight zone for autoturrets along with the features to create a checkpoint building where you need to go to get authorisation in order to be able to move freely inside the securised zone. Of course, guild/party/company members could already go in and out without problems, but checkpoints would be for trading purposes etc..
People have other things to do instead of not sleeping at all and not getting enough sleep because some random **** decide to raid their station/gas refinery. At this point renting police npc's along with police ships to defend these infrastructures could also become an option. The number could be determined by the size and development of the station/city/infrastructure to prevent an armada from being rented so it can be balanced that way with a limit.
Players could also rent NPC's escort ships to escort their transporters/mining ships and protect them. The number of escort ships could be limited to the size/class of ship along with the components they have. If the ship has 600-800 cargo crates it's definitively not a small ship and do need more than 2 escort ships, maybe 4 or more. This would give players a choice of either renting not so smart npc's or other players and having more choices in a game is great.
There is also the idea of insurances giving you back around 75-85% of your ship value back when it's destroyed by a player, but you need to pay your insurances frequently or one payment after you buy your ship. The players could also be needed to pay the insurances again each time their ship is destroyed in order to renew it so you have to use the returned money + pay the lost percentage lost percentage along with the insurance. It's a way to make it not to be too easy, or if they want there is more options and ways to implement it.
There is just so many ways to implement good stuff and features.
The game was only supposed to be a two factions smash and destroy each others kinda game and it's not the case anymore. Now it's more like a gestion, economy, building, farm, sci fi simulator with pvp in it.
