Research system to unlock technologies

I would like to see a feature that is in the game but not announced publicly. And so you or your faction can go to an anomaly or pick up a strange material in asteroids and scan or research it to unlock some technology or component you can use. And it would be nice if you can share it with your faction or sell it to others(Like selling ship blueprint? You can sell it to as many people as you like but you still have it). This would make exploring and research more interesting. And eventually, these features will be known publicly either by players (selling or using so much that others all know it too) or by devs.

What if that feature isn't in yet? If you research some material but it had no feature yet what would happen? Would it tell you that there might be some feature that unlocked by researching this but it is not implemented yet and remember that you researched it or it just shows that research/scan failed?

How would you know what could be scan? A feature guideline? Like, "In this update we put in 3 new feature about travelling (trusters, propellant)" so if you want to know you will have to research ores that used to make truster or some asteroids that moving on it own.

Would every feature be introduced this way? I don't think so but it would be nice.

So... a list that shows all undiscovered feature? that would make implementing this a lot easier and less exciting.
