I have found that the inventory is quite limited and there are like 9 tools (for a total of 11 slots) and objects in your hands go into your backpack when you free your hands.
-Pickaxe(2 slots)
-Saw (2 slots)
-Welder
-Bolt tool
-Cable tool
-Cutting tool
-Building tool
-Pipe tool
-paint tool
My suggestion is to have a storage device (Like a toolbox) on a ship that can hold only tools and limited quantities of each "ammo" for the tools. This will let us free up our inventory and be able to have access to all the required tools.
Similar thing could be done for weapons and have a weapons locker for all your guns and ammo.
