When mocking up designs, especially small fighters, I felt there's a pretty big gap between pure battery power and the smallest generator currently available. Now add in the fact that a generator with a single generator unit is more geared towards longevity and has pretty poor power to weight ratio. A small standalone generator unit would solve this issue by being small and cheap enough for a small ship while not efficient enough for a bigger craft. Ideally it would produce around 500 power, just enough to fly around and power some basic weapons with the help of batteries. It should have a shorter life than a normal generator and is overall less efficient with the amount of resources you put in.
