In the asset browser, each major subfolder of elements has two icons to its left:
An eye: if you click this, it toggles between "visible" and "transparent" for that class of items.
A padlock: if you click this, it toggles the ability to interact with that class of items.
Using these options judiciously helps no end with making ships!
