Credit goes to [TFO] Richard for the original idea in the Starbase discord, I am merely expanding on his original thought.
There can be very large ones like 3x3x3 or others of similar sizes that have the same insert things (purple and blue I believe) but have them more customizable. Making them have the same customization like reactors with the different blocks and block attachments that you can add. There could be a minimum requirement for both but a little extra number of slots that you can tweak to specific needs. Purple can be raw thrust at the expense of using more propellant, blue can be cooling. Maybe even more colors can be introduced such as green or yellow. Green being the efficiency of propellant usage. There can also be a system where there is a goldilocks zone for engine heat, best thrust given but remaining as efficient as possible. Heat would be required for engines to run properly. We can simply say the current implemented triangle engines and rectangle ones are just ion engines. Managing the heat would be a very fun mechanic for these large engines . This would also help with progressing the entire player base into making larger ships that look cleaner, not requiring the entire backside of ships to be covered in engines to actually move.
Thanks for reading!
