Narrow "jet streams" without clouds or asteroids piercing the belt. Players would be able to travel at 2x through those streams towards the outer part of the belt (and more valuable ore). That would create a strong incentive for players to travel specific routes to save time. Perfect for other players wishing to ambush... and a reason for haulers to have other players guarding.. and a meaningful choice. Take the fast way through the jet streams and risk getting ambushed or slower through the belt and risk hitting an asteroid ...in short, I think a mechanic like that would ad gameplay value
Could of course also be jet streams leading towards other points of interest. Not only outer part of the belt. The idea is simply to provide a way for players to get to attractive places faster but by doping so also create "highways" for players to protect, patroll and ambush...
Right now space is big. There is no reason to take a specific route. For someone wanting to ambush haulers it will be like looking for needle in a haystack.
