Could energy weapons use cable to only drain the ship's power to fire?

It needs to be there, and it holds enough energy for 200 shoots. But it slowly recharges over time: one shoot every 4s (or 2s? Can't remember exactly. Either way pretty slow).

it'd be cool if you could run a plasma cannon off of a power cable and propellant tank tho, even if it cost more resources per shot, it'd be a nice way to make the energy weapons more unique compared to kinetic ammo which just wants for lack of a larger ammo box

In my opinion, It will be another point for the generator managing program to control the out put of the generator. In general, It will bring more element but not just give players a shortcut for no reloading.

weapons already pull power from the grid to run, it costs 500/sec for a single AC to continuously fire, the other weapons are likely to have a similar power draw, not counting things like recharging shots on the laser cannon, direct power to an energy weapon, like the plasma cannon example would probably cost more than that and, hitting the limit of power transfer, slow the rate of fire or something
