Public transportation navigation?

So last progress notes they posted some videos of how the public transportation works. Do those ships use rangefinders or something else? They seemed to be able to align themselves with the opposite landing pad, which is out of rangefinder range. Or at least the yellow beams were not turned on while it was travelling to the other pad, and only came on to help it land.

So what enables the ship to find and maintain course to a tiny black pad in the distance? Can it sense color?

They're reworking it ATM, because it was causing some problems. We'll get it back at some point.

Ra ragefinders are already working. And you even got two types: simple rangefinder and laser designator for torpedoes that doubles as RF.

Is that, or future reworked, transmitter tech robust enough to put the buses back on course if someone bumped one off course?

Yes. It tells yolol relative position of transmitters/beacons, then it's matter of translating it into usable navigation commands.
