    Moon materials

An easy way to naturally push the meta would be putting different - not necessarily better at everything but some mix of materials with different properties that will just impact the meta by having more options. Would be a pretty cool thing to introduce when players get close.

What would you name your ships and why?

Historically, vehicles named after their creator are successful, at least for branding. http://mentalfloss.com/article/24328/how-14-car-companies-got-their-names I think a lot of people will enjoy the idea of their name and ship style being branded and talked about if their ship designs impact...

    Piracy and Thievery

@Spartan Shipyards The starter areas will be huge. You will be able to exist in them indefinitely and experience most of what the game offers. As an MMO, the devs will need a huge play area - even 1000km sphere - for each starter mega station, where it does indeed take you ~3hrs of direct flying...

What kinds of ships are you going to be building?

Like it or not, a car is just a box, with interesting internal features and very slight external features. But if you stand back, all cars are basically boxes. Likewise, all sea-faring ships in the sea are boxes. They have tapered bottom ends for displacement purposes and for maintaining...

The Laws of Online World Design

A lot of these points are really good and the natural, physical world of Starbase solves so many of these issues from what we've seen so far, which is pretty exciting.

Incorporating an in-game Ship design element into the real-time MMO, and abolishing a separate Creative mode

@Kimsemus Yeah - if people can just import ships, the game loses a lot of value as players shortcut what would otherwise be a lengthy building process (similar amount of time to an offline environment, just done online with a bit slower due to a potential need to acquire resources). If you don't...

Incorporating an in-game Ship design element into the real-time MMO, and abolishing a separate Creative mode

This is, however, what every single successful MMO tends to tell players. "If you don't like certain features of our MMO, we can't force you to play. If you don't have a good internet connection; nothing we can do to help you." As such, if the desire is to have an offline mode for those players...

Forum suggestions? Post it to this thread!

Likes are still possible inside the profile comments currently, so if the issue was the actual liking... it's still a thing in play currently. The "Like button" was useful, and lets people just click-and-go without feeling the need to add their own random thought that varies slightly. It's a...

    Piracy and Thievery

The starter safe zones will be very large, and encompass a big chunk of the asteroid belt. The security will come from players in the form of the dev factions among other things. Not sure how that will work out. I think if they can just maintain a large enough safe zone (which they will) the...

Incorporating an in-game Ship design element into the real-time MMO, and abolishing a separate Creative mode

I think the point is, the devs are the ones deciding that everyone else needs to play the game the way they see fit. It's not anyone else in charge of that. And if that vision is an MMO, if the tech allows for large scale things to happen in a single game world, there are good points to be said...

Incorporating an in-game Ship design element into the real-time MMO, and abolishing a separate Creative mode

That's the point I'm trying to argue against; I think it adds immense amounts of player interaction. I played Star Wars Galaxies, and some player building their house in the middle of nowhere ended up being a place to visit, because maybe they eventually sold good player crafted weapons. In...

Incorporating an in-game Ship design element into the real-time MMO, and abolishing a separate Creative mode

@Kimsemus and @Recatek have valid points and it really comes down to what kind of game this wants to be. If the game wants to be a creative-mode ship designer like SE and so many other games, it can do that. That's kind of the default at this point. Pretty much all comparable games offer these...

Incorporating an in-game Ship design element into the real-time MMO, and abolishing a separate Creative mode

With mega-station safe zones and so on, you won't really lose anything. I mean, you're right to some degree, like if you're figuring out how cooling cells work, and your generator overheats and explodes, you're punished for that. But that's how you learn; making mistakes that matter. If touching...

    Social Tools

I like the idea of player-tags for people in your group, because usually you can identify friends by their appearance, so tags for people in your group are pretty important for gameplay. Outside of that, I know there's the "CV" system where you can check another player's credentials so to speak...

    Edited pictures of bob

I think we'll have different sects, one which believes Bob's eyes are the side of his head, others believe Bob's eyes are the LEDs in the center of the face. Can an LED "see"? Are the sensors on the side just ears? Who is right? Who is wrong?

Incorporating an in-game Ship design element into the real-time MMO, and abolishing a separate Creative mode

The idea is it would make the game better for everyone, and there's always the possibility to interact with someone, so they may get emotionally pulled into some cause when they didn't think they wanted to participate in the first place. The same systems can be developed for you to be able to...

    Social Tools

I think there will be guild-like systems so I won't get into that except to point out it doesn't have to be too complex as players organize externally to games much better. Baseline channels for General, Guild, LFG, Trade and so on are probably a good idea. Trade channel for example would be...

Wonder who made the music for Starbase? Here's a link!

I'm not sure if he made all the Starbase music, but thought I'd share in case anyone is interested. It's pretty powerful stuff. The trailer music is so on point, and there's some other bits of music in the Starbase feature videos. The trailer's mix of visuals, gameplay, music and story are...

    VoIP do we need it?

That ship will be 1km away or more potentially, so you might have to type anyway. Directional, ship to ship VoIP sounds really good and a controlled environment for the devs, and the other ship would have to open a channel with you, so if they don't, you'd kinda know what to expect.
