I think there should be a material or a few that is specific to the moon and a material or a few that aren’t on or near the moon so there is an inventive to go there but also a problem moondwellers have to solve. The materials have to be well used or prized materials.

If there is a need to keep engines or weapons away from the craft, then yes, as can be seen with X-wings from Star Wars. The engines heat up so having them on the edge of the wings is the best place for them.
