  1. A game that doomed itself before even launching

I can see you guys got some funding recently. Please add a time sink or the game is going to die again. A reminder: building ships and bases doesn't count as a time sink. Ship building and bases are never, ever going to be a proper timesink for a game that doesn't reset monthly like rust does...
  2. A game that doomed itself before even launching

I know you wanted the game to be different from modern mmo's, and before I list the faults, i just want to say that you are different in a lot of good ways. The problem however is you are also different in all the wrong ways. You had an amazing idea, and this game certainly scratches an itch...
  3. This Game is Missing Something Crucial

Funny you mention Eve, out of all mmo's, eve is one of the defacto time sink games. Want to fly a ship 25% better? wait 200 days for the researches to complete. The game is one big time-gated experience, and that is a major part of why they retain players. I'm glad starbase added time sinks in...
  4. This Game is Missing Something Crucial

Players don't know what they want. They think treadmills are a bad thing, because the idea of artificially making you walk on a skill path to make the game longer doesn't appeal to them, however, those same people played runescape for years, when the only content is that very same pointless exp...
  5. This Game is Missing Something Crucial

A treadmill is something that keeps you walking on it for years. What you are describing is a few weeks- 1 month of gameplay at most.
  6. This Game is Missing Something Crucial

You could say that about those other popular games too. Sure, gathering, networking, making friends, all those things can fill the void of no treadmill. Certainly. For a few weeks, or maybe a month. Why do raiders in world of warcraft no longer want to raid when they have best in slot gear...
  7. This Game is Missing Something Crucial

MMORPGS are skill/gear treadmills with a game attached to them. Every successful MMORPG uses that design, and the ones that don't are very niche and struggling desperately to stay afloat. Runescape is a skill treadmill of 1-99, with a game tacked onto it. World of Warcraft is a gear treadmill...
  8. EA Might be Premature

Well, if it stays as is, then I suppose a few months after Starbase goes into EA, we will both get to compare our theories and see what happens to a persistent world MMO with an easily attainable impersonal main sink. While I can't think of any commercially successful persistent world mmo's...
  9. EA Might be Premature

As a side note, i don't think anyone will blame you if you use a skill system like eve, or an equipment system like wow. There's a good reason why all mainstream popular mmos have a main sink, it's because without it, it becomes very difficult to retain players, meaning you may find it hard to...
  10. EA Might be Premature

If I may be so presumptuous, these are my thoughts: Space MMO's like eve didn't have to try very hard to create their own main sink, because no matter how much money you get, there's never enough money to purchase all skills via skill injections, and this acts as an endless treadmill. Starbase...
  11. WARNING: Unplayable lagg on the biggest ships due to thrusters

The ship swayed a bit back and forth when it moved, which caused my 90 fps to drop to 12 fps, and now that i solved that issue i don't drop fps.
  12. New Bolting Mechanic is Punishing

Can't physically bolt 3 crates together properly anymore, must be because my own design designs are flawed, in my next hauler build I won't use more than 2 crates if i plan to edit it after the fact, problem solved! Will be weird going from a 260 crate hauler to a 2 crate hauler, but hey, gotta...
  13. Ship combat is missing something

I was attempting to be as unmistakably sarcastic as humanly possible but looks like I failed :( I apologize for making you think otherwise, it wasn't my intention. For the second point, If you can see the effect of the damage you dealt to a ship from nearly 5km away with your naked eye, while...
  14. New Bolting Mechanic is Punishing

You are wrong about saying you can remove any parts and put them back together like they were, even if i took out every crate in my ship and then tried to put them back in 1 by 1, i wouldn't be able to bolt even 1/10 of the crates perfectly together, no matter what i did, it would be physically...
  15. WARNING: Unplayable lagg on the biggest ships due to thrusters

Actually, my fps is normal now, it turned out it was a physics bug that caused the fps drop. I fixed it by stabilizing the ship with extra thrusters on the sides. My pc can go 90 fps quite fine in this game normally.
  16. Ship combat is missing something

That's not true, every gun has a different range...
  17. Ship combat is missing something

Rail Cannon not rail gun, my bad.
  18. Ship combat is missing something

You've completely changed my mind, I'm 100% on board with things staying as they are, i can even imagine the great conversations that will be had when people join the game. *New player joins guild* New player: "Hey, i joined this game because I heard the ship combat is fun, I wanna play as a...
  19. Ship combat is missing something

I was in the pvp event for an hour and a half, and I was constantly shooting my rail cannon from a turret while my friend drives, and not at any point did I think I hit something for certain, and not at any point did I think to tweak my own aiming behavior, not because I couldn't, but because...
  20. Ship combat is missing something

Except you realize you can never improve, because you'll never know if you are hitting, this goes back to the point of practicing with a gun irl while blindfolded. Is it really good practice to have a sniper take 0 skill since none is able to improve with it?
