Actual armor plates.

I personally don't like the idea of dedicated armour plates. When I look at the SB plates, I want to be able to stack/layer plates and make a composite armour myself. Though, the current system discourages that heavily.

I think the idea is making it easier to have those layers.

Doubt that it would work.
But... what happens when you hit one pickaxe with another? Two absolutely hard objects colliding may lead to some nuclear explosion....
