As we know there is a maximum limit of weapons you can put on a ship and also a maximum size. Bolting ships together will make the ship unusable. However, is it possible to connect ships with structure? For example, use a hinge and a hook to lock another ship into place. This way it might be possible to create HUGE modular capital ships or even moving bases.

Physical connections tend to be very wobbly and unstable in games.

AFAIK size restriction is SSC only. If you connect two ships outside editor and they are longer/wider/taller than limit, but within parts limit, they should still work fine.
But we need to test if it's true.

Also you can use cargo beams to hold weapon modules. All thrusters on these will be disabled, but AFAIK weapons still work.
It's an extra energy cost to run them, but you can potentially extend the limit.
Also needs testing.

Yeah will have to test it out after game releases. The problem with cargo beams is that if power is cut the ship falls apart. Physical connections could be more wobbly but if they don't break we can always have 3 of them to fix the parts in place. If We want to build base ships the biggest problem is actually the light limit.
