Drones are technically possible, but.
1. Someone needs to host them, so player needs to be nearby anyway. And it's limited how many ships you can host at once.
2. There are very few sensors, so drones are almost blind.
3. Yolol is slow, so they are terrible at shooting moving targets.
4. The amount of sensors and yolol chips needed takes more space than a cockpit.

It may be possible, but it is far from feasible.
And I really don't think drones would be able to mine. They do not have any way of checking ores, so they can't get specific things, and drones would not be able to return from the belt if there isn't a player constantly loading the ship within their render distance.
