How many planets are actually part of the game? I hope that in some years there is an endless universe you can visit like in elite dangerous.

Currently the universe consists of one gas giant, the asteroid belt orbiting it, and its 10 moons. Beyond that there isn't really anything to see, just empty space. The dev's plan is to add in more planets, moons, etc as they're needed. So once most the moons start being populated and the playerbase has outgrown them, another planet might be added elsewhere. Starbase's scope is less a whole galaxy and more just a big solar system.

Endless is relative. If it would take you decades just to explore the local system due to how long it takes to travel in ships and warp gates, then it is effectively "endless". You don't need a thousand planets if traveling from one moon to another is measured in weeks of time and only when you are logged in.

The SB universe might be endless by definition, but seeing as how long it took for people to travel to Elysium without Fast Travel, there is so much to explore. To give you an estimate: Elysium (The first moon the community landed on) is roughly 20.000km away. If u travel at 100m/s (which is really fast [max is 150m/s]) it takes you almost 2 and a half days to get to elysium without a warp gate.
