Regarding variable-size armour plates, Lauri has stated on discord that this is something they can't do.
As to torpedoes - perhaps the warheads need to be adjusted so that they are only really effective against stations, and do much less damage...
One thing that would go a long way to helping with the "I only have 20 minutes" problem is recording the ship you log-off on and logging you back in on that ship.
This has plagued Starbase from the beginning. A group of friends fly on the same ship. They log off at different times, and log back...
A player can spend 100+ hours designing a ship in the SSC. It could take 1000+ hours to build it in-world. The same ship can be lost in seconds.
I'm fine with Starbase being a dangerous place - that is part of the fun. But the ease with which ships are lost means it is seldom worth the effort...
Thinks of the coming removal of EZ build, then maybe...
removing outdated ships from ship shops,
removing 29 Origin stations,
removing tier 1 asteroids...
Not clear to me from the development news was will Moon Bases be part of nations? And will they be siegable?
Will these territories be exclusive to belts, or can nations be built on the surface of planets?

I suspect this change was purely practical from a development point-of-view, because they lack the resources to finish development of the heat tracking system.
This would need to be integrated with the permissions system with ranks. Since I would expect a lot of orgs would not want to grant every new rando access to everything.

It is because other bugs in the game have broken many people's capital ships, and as a temporary fix they were turned into "dev cap ships" to make them work. Dev cap ships don't have to wait to warp, which is obviously unfair to other players.
