A take on energy shields - say no to bubbles

^^^ This, as much fun as imagining the perfect star-warsian shield system, the gritty lived-in aesthetic is more apropos to a system without shields- with them we need degradation and imperfect repair mechanics to keep up with the flow. On top of that, shields still don't quite fit the flavor...

    Leveling System/Tech Tree?

there's no real room for stats to be leveled, thus no reason to have level progressions or class specs, Starbase is one of the gear-centeric MMOs as opposed to traditional character-centric RPGs- at best you can modifiy your character stats with backpacks or the idea of a heavy endo meant for...

    Infantry Combat

mind you, pistols in general should barely be effective outside of damaging standard glass and chipping away at endos- not a lot of people get the differences in firepower between cartridge dimensions and barrel lengths that make rifles vastly superior weapons from a ballistics perspective

Learning from past successes and failures

Excellent points on both sides of the debate, data-gathering can only help implement a solution, it guarantees nothing, not even an accurate assessment of the problem, it also requires the variable quality of the dev team and the questions they ask, which I think Frozenbyte has nailed down so...

    Space mines

Yeah, I'm just saying, contact explosives in space (i.e. real space like IRL and this game where space is big, really, really big, you don't even understand how big space really is)... aren't... tactical. At all. On top of that the available radius that any method of creating an explosion...

    Space mines

It sounds like your opinion is that mines are an attack system and not a deterrence system- I completely disagree.

    Infantry Combat

The plasma rifle has 8 shots, that's not a mainline inf. weapon, your loadout is heavily skewed and might be showing some odd bias. For something like the rail rifle, I'd almost say give it a light trail instead of an "overheat ghost" or whatever. Another thought based on that, infantry...

    Space mines

Yeah, I know, you're all so super-focused on what you think something needs to look like based on a name instead of what role it fills.

    Space mines

I still think you're all imagining mines too literally, the proximity missile launcher does, in space, what sea mines do in water.

    Infantry Combat

Given that it's an anti-vehicle/structure weapon, any of those heavy infantry weapons being one-hits on an endo is fine imo. Movement and weapon systems need to be fun and awesome and produce good fights, but they also need to be internally consistent.

You're also forgetting that a viewer of a piece of art can have an entirely overriding frame of mind that precludes, rejects, or ignores the artist's message in favor of their own personal reality- and yet the art still has meaning to the beholder, it's just an unintended and alien meaning...

A take on energy shields - say no to bubbles

nah, just when the big shield capacitors overload and blow up with a full stack of absorbed damage, then lightning bolt stuff happens

    Nebula Mechanics

Some thoughts thanks to talk with @NorthTop @JetWarriorGames and @legoprodigy (I hope those are all the correct user accts on the forums). Orbital Nebula: these are large long-term clouds of semi-volatile gasses that have coalesced inside of Eos' sphere of influence, dense regions inside of...

    Infantry Combat

These aren't quite parkour-bots like in titanfall... I'd settle just for having a cover-lean control like in some FPSs- a directional jetpack dodge that kicks you into flight mode if you're standing might be an interesting mechanic since jetpacking is less viable than walking/running so it'd...

A take on energy shields - say no to bubbles

Entertaining the concept, reiterating that I don't think energy shields have any place in this game, shields are more fun when you aren't just running them off o a power bank, they need capacitors that break, short, or explode when stressed by incoming fire; integrity fields are the less...

    Warpgate Placement, Range, and Alignment

Point 1: to my knowledge gates still use the hyperlane concept, which creates a tunnel of lowered physics or something that allows ships to break the speed cap and mitigate drag, keeping the ship inside the universe, so hyperlanes can be interdicted and ambushed and set up the need to police...

Learning from past successes and failures

He's got a strong point though "people don't know what they like or why they like it, only what they think they do" is a solid axiom, the analytics will tell you more about a person's engagement than their partially aware self-reporting; this follows for any human being, we're best at knowing...

    Cav's shield suggestion

Shields as a barrier or damage field do give you lots of options, but they're a bland wall of power, having to form them adds in some engineering requirement to make it (more) effective than a crude implementation, but given how complex building and thus destruction is in this game, shields in...
