How about this: Different starting stations for different regions. New players would all get to experience the best connections and only experienced players, that know what to expect, will ever frequently run into players from other regions. You could choose to start at a region that isn't your...
Episode#12: Material Point Scanner
I thought I'd shift to something a little more useful for more experienced players this time! I include the program that I use so if you're just looking for that, I can hook you up in the description of the video!
I have another interesting tale of strange combat.
During the last event (Territory Battle) I was one of the gunners on Phunky Monkey's ship. The turrets were all YOLOL controlled and were slow to turn. I had never used the YOLOL turrets before and so I hadn't understood the pain. Nevertheless...
Once the new tripod turrets are brought into the game large ships may be more willing to be slow with tons of armor since they know they can pick off fighters. This in-turn will allow for fighters to specialize in either anti-fighter or anti-large ship roles.
To more specifically address the...
@Bob Dole
I hope that you don't feel so discouraged by all the arguments against your point. So, I wanted to say thank you for expressing your concern. I'm sure that there are many players that do want that treadmill and I agree that Starbase doesn't have that same kind of treadmill built in. I...
For me, I see Starbase (raw gameplay wise) as less like an RPG and more like a factory game (despite our current lack of factories). I think it shouldn't be compared so much to RPGs and rather games like Factorio, Minecraft Technic/Buildcraft etc., Satisfactory. These are games about working to...
Yes, currently they are. Also, any of the ships that can be bought from the ship shops currently have all of their YOLOL chips readable by the owner. Perhaps black box YOLOL chips / anti-theft coding practices could be added / used to prevent unwanted reverse engineering. I wouldn't put it past...
But why waste power while not in combat? Unless you mean having a separate weapons and other stuff grid? The point being, it will be inefficient to keep weapons turned on all the time.
I think you have very good concerns, Niko. I share many of them.
Whether it is right or wrong I feel like FB's plan for now is to let the game attract those who want to play in an alpha now and pick up the players who jumped on earlier than they should and those who wait a year or so from now...
Those Tripods are looking good! I would like to see a way to mount them to a ship that looks less temporary and so that they don't have to get carried around.
This sounds much better than what I was worrying about. It sounds like these areas are a solution to areas only being loaded when players are around. So, the factories will still work while nobody is around. That's reasonable enough.
I think there are some good parts about this. I think that coding directly to chips shouldn't have to be forced on players, just as building in the universe isn't.
In thinking about a way to make this idea Starbase-y, I think I might have an idea that fits the bill.
I'm imagining a...
