I agree, It is pretty weird. I could see it being allowed if you and the owner of the other ship are in the same group or you own both ships... I've never heard of anyone's ships getting taken before it happened to me.
It's great to see the devs making their ways into forum discussions where conversation can stay on topic. That being said. I really like all of these ideas. I like that they add to gameplay, and player choice, rather than limit.

This might already be possible by making some extended things at the front of your ship and making them out of durable materials. This is especially likely now that we can choose materials. The hardest part would be to build the underlying structure strong enough to be used more than once.
In terms of the editor and in terms of editing outside the editor with tools. I don't know for certain, but I suspect that destroyed cables/pipes break at the segment ends too.
There is already something very much like this. When you click the first point, a white line then extends from that...
There's only the developer run ship shops that players can submit their ships to be considered for. Players don't earn any money for those sales, though.
I may not understand your wording. pipes/cables place set length segments along the path that you define by the start and end point. Any segment can be deleted and the rest remain much like you said.
With the shrunk model, how can you tell if two parts are touching or not? Cabling can only span...
-- Summary --
Blueprints of ships can be stamped onto chips that can be used once to construct a ship at a ship design center or to introduce scarcity into the market.
-- The Problem --
There are two problems that this proposed solution can solve:
Ship manufacturers cannot easily sell their...
Perhaps instead of reducing the acceleration possibility, add inertia to ships. So, if a player wants to be able to turn on a dime, their ship will have to have a strong frame and light materials otherwise it'll tear itself to pieces if it changes direction too quickly. The damage doesn't have...
As this game doesn't follow a grid and pipes and cables can be placed onto any geometry, how could you place them between the gaps of the shrunken objects? It is necessary to know the exact position of the object geometry to correctly place pipes and cables since they cannot be free floating for...
Perhaps a new chip could be created a "Graphics Chip" that has functions that take arguments to work on multiple vector variables at a time. Or, better yet, a "Vector Chip" that works with any 1 (at least) dimension vectors (matrices).
