I have seen this argument presented many times. It seems to boil down to:
Don't play Starbase.
Don't leave Origin.
"Get Lost" in space where you will never meet any players.
It's a commonly held opinion, but it's not universal. IMHO none of these points are conducive to building interesting...
There is a big difference between losing a ship that can be re-spawned after an hour of collecting materials, and rebuilding a station that took 500, or even 1000 man-hours to create.
I can't see any possible circumstance where losing the latter could be considered "fun".
I don't expect any...
Cool. This will be great for finally finishing off my Y-wing that I started last year. Since the cockpit has so many shallow angles, it's practically impossible to get right with 15-degree-only beams.
In fact, this will be amazing for creative designs in general.
With regard to the problem of Station siege being a gigantic disincentive to build anything nice outside of the Origin safe zone, I propose the following:
The ability to choose between Civilian and Military stations. I suggest that:
A civilian station cannot be sieged if it's owner has been...
To just talk about something other than who is on the shadow council for a minute and look at what is in the report...
There was a bunch of interesting stuff mentioned, but the thing that still has me most concerned is "Risk vs reward of sieges"
The report seems to recognise that players...
One other big problem with Markka I have realised talking to new players is they they do not know it even exists! New players find out fairly quickly about Elysium and moon city, but Markka they have no clue about.
I've started construction of a mid-way station with friends and plan to do some...
This is the issue with this feature. Nobody wants to see their hard work destroyed.
At the same time, there needs to be a way to completely get rid of stations belonging to inactive players that are just blocking areas. I don't know if station siege can even do this. Can it?
So is there no way to completely remove a station then? If not, isn't that open to abuse by groups spamming station blocks around other people's stations?
At everyone saying tripods can go anywhere on stations: How are they powered without factory halls? Do tripods work at full power on stations without a resource bridge connection?
Also, is it possible to 'demolish' a station completely rather than capture it? - i.e. remove the station block...
A suggestion I heard recently was the ability to land ships/deposit wrecks at a pad on Origin for demolition. The ship/wreck would then become available for spawn in the demolition job site and would pay more credits than selling at the Sunny Ship Shop if the player demolishes it.
I liked this...
In order for this game to really work well with groups I think most people would agree it needs better permissions options. What do you feel you need for good team play?
To start off, I really feel a need for:
Ability to add group permissions to stations by company (multiple companies!) -...
I think the player ship shops are a great idea and really look forward to this. But I do wonder, how will this work with station siege? What happens if you lose your station with a shop on it? Does the new owner get to sell your ships? Or can you stop selling your designs there?
I think it's...
Taking this approach is setting oneself up for a lot of arguments and/or potentially disappointment.
I was talking about this with some guys a few days ago and there seem to be a lot of different views. One guy thought that FB should really sell decorative ship parts for the simple reason that...
With respect, I don't agree with your interpretation.
If the point of heat storage is for future ship tracking, then people need a reason to use it. If you do not give it the function of quickly collecting the heat from devices to transfer to radiators, if you leave ships to function as they...
If you guys are doing permissions for crates, is it possible to also add permissions for chairs sometime in the near future? I know this is something a lot of players would really, really like.
Adding new parts to ship designs is to be expected. They cannot design the game around existing ship designs. It is up to us to update designs around the game as it develops.
There is a lot of interesting stuff in these notes. The ability to update blueprints for existing ships will make...
IMHO this would be a pretty horrifying change if it happened without the introduction of ball turrets. If you add asymmetry to max possible performance based on mass, it needs balancing with something, or else micro-fighters become clearly better, and that is not interesting design (to me at least).
I would not be in favour of cameras, as this would inevitably lead to windowless cockpits being the norm. But the ability to add a rear-view mirror would be great.
