Damage testing was never intended to be possible in the SSC. It was for testing purposes so that we could more quickly try different things. IMO, it shouldn't be possible to do damage testing in the SSC at all
The lack of organic PC's does have the aspect that the "entertainment" need isn't logical to provide. We could use cards, chess, etc for shipboard activity on long range patrols and such.
Someone inside your ship aims the turrets, but to allow mouse controls you would have to set up a whole system, instead of just linking them all on the same network.
Also, you can create convergence. Many groups do that now. I just array my weapons for overlap lol.
But having mouse controls...
Perhaps a better idea is a modular system for joined control of up to 5 turrets at one station that would be needed for mouse control of the turret system. Something large and bulky, and maybe even heavy and power hungry, that would enable large ships to utilize turrets better, while having...
Weapons currently can't pass about 1km. So orbital bombardment while technically possible will not be done from orbital distances.
However, the best method to do it is torpedoes and missiles.
lol, what? Just because most player may not engineer their own ships doesn't mean that you can ignore the ships engineering. Default ships are trash, and even many shop ships are not designed to be very good at their jobs.
Ya... this isn't insulting at all... If you realize this and know this then why name your thread this?
No, I don't support your idea on its basis. Paper rock scissors mechanics, giving a role where solo large ships are viable, etc.
Also... If I were you, then you'd be me, and you'd dislike...
The devs have literally said "no auto turrets". The OP admits he didn't explain himself properly. Even when someone else explained it properly, its not really a helpful mechanic still.
Rock paper scissors is boring honestly. Large ships need to be made viable. This is probably not the way to do...
