An identify friend or foe device for ships.
Could be 1 to 3 parts:
Interface (small like car radio)
Antenna (small / flush mounted)
Display (if hud integration isnt a thing)
The interface would accept a four digit code and any other ship with the same code would appear as friendly... Kinda...
I like the idea of a scanner type device that can detect engine heat or exhaust trails, like the IRST on Su27...but not engines sending out manufactured signals like a transponder.
You may try, and you may succeed... For a time, but im confident designs would adapt to such tactics easily. And the ships crew would be just as capable as the boarding party, probably more so because they know their ships layout better.
Are physical lockouts not possible? Devices that swing...
Sounds like SB is relying on role playing for the main factions? I hope not... Really wish the devs would address how this is supposed to work.:cautious:
Thats exactly what im getting at though. Aluminium is highly reactive. SB uses fictional materials with 'yet unknown' qualities so... you know... Someone should suggest different transparent materials that hold up to the various stresses in-game.;)
I could see a directional deflector type shield being useful, especially if it helped with structural integrity during warp or something... Maybe reduces loads by deflecting space dust and such?
No, i would not suggest that. I'd guess SB battles will primarily be won by light craft for a while, unless we start seeing devs adding more benifits to ship size.
