    Because I don't want to have to build a station around every locations of interests just to have somewhere to land. I don't have the time or will to do that and I don't want to be blocked off places just because.

    I disagree. I much prefer there to be a few public owned stations everyone can go to regardless of what faction they belong to. I don't want to have a universe that is mostly off limit because it's owned by someone or some faction. I want to know there are place I can go where I can park my ship...

    It's a game engine limitation. Faster than that and collisions don't register for example.

    If they did, it's not very apparent when I test this out in the designer. I don't see much point in using grinders or laser cutters when the good old pickaxe can do the job just fine.

    Difficult to make a battleship when a single endo can just bore hole through it using a pickaxe. That won't make very interesting boarding action when invader can just bash their way through any part of the ship at will. Yeah, endos are heavy, but so is everything else...

    Well, in this game you can destroy pretty much anything using a pickaxe. Everything is stupidly fragile in this game.

    Well, it's not that easy to hit the pilot with ship based weapons. Hand held weapons makes this much easier, but canopies offer very good protection against that (but more players still prefer plain glass somehow).
