well if you have a mining base in an asteroid belt and another main base in open space then you might want to ship mined materials to the main base for refinement or use as building etc materials
So first of all lets hope this thread isn't overrun by "y'all gon get leashed" and secondly in regards to warfare and anti-piracy would automated cargo conveys with players acting as protection in fighters or bigger ships work, as having the non-combatant ships automated frees up players but...
Firstly if you can generate a 3D map of ships around you that means you have the data to allow for auto targeting secondly a 2D map can still warn people about ships in the area it just doesn't tell them where exactly they are which means you do not have a completely game breaking system
the trouble with it is that it allows solo players to use massive capital ships on their own as the computer does all the targeting which while fun at first would get quite boring unless you implemented a limit to how many guns or the controls to the guns could access this and therefore mean it...
So in the video about spaceship weapons they said you could change out different parts of a mounted weapon to change its abilities so could you make a rail gun shoot faster
I think its probably transponders the developer battles haven't shown any names above ships or players but that could have just been editing or they turned them off to make the battle look nice but in all their videos there hasn't been any name tags so it might just be done by transponders...
yeah but the reason they are on turntables is so they can range in on the target and so make it easier to shoot as for having it in the centre there may be other stuff there like other guns or a transmitter etc
also would a rail gun be useful at these sorts of longer ranges as while they have a charge up they have a fire rate of 300 rounds per minute which is good for such a heavy weapon
yeah you could also use such a automatic ranging feature on larger ships as it allows multiple guns to fire at the same point meaning more fire accurate than just a single turret
If you build a large heavy long range fighter that isn't meant to be super nimble but has more armour and storage space then you could probably absorb the cost especially if you wanted to get into long range dogfights
