Starbase a la Animal Crossing (How to Start off with a Ship)

The idea: New players are given a ship, then they have to work to pay it off. Meatbolio and I briefly discussed this idea in the thread Quickplay Mode: Or How to Retain Players that Don't Have the Patience for the Main Game, but I felt that this topic deserved it's own thread. Currently...

    Convenience Vs Cooperation

Firstly, well written post. I like the structure and reasoning process. Secondly, this idea of engineering for social interaction reminds me of a building on campus. It's a huge gray and imposing building with twisting halls and dead ends. The architect designed it to be confusing so that...

Quickplay Mode: Or How to Retain Players that Don't Have the Patience for the Main Game

I think this idea might deserve its own thread now.

    New block: Laser transceiver/antenna

Would the difference between this and the radio receivers be directional signals, and the unlimited (or longer at least) transmission distance? One feature of this might be that it takes more power to send signals farther. So, station to station would likely be the only use case. Also, how...

Quickplay Mode: Or How to Retain Players that Don't Have the Patience for the Main Game

Are you suggesting something like what we have now, but instead of just a pickaxe, players would be given a ship to use temporarily while they mine? On that same train of thought. Maybe you are given a ship right off the bat, but have to pay it off by working, Animal Crossing style.

    So uhhh..... This happened...

I think that that would be awesome too, but they are using an in-house engine. I doubt porting would be very viable at this point. :(

Weapon Expansion, a few ideas for more anti-ship weapons.

I'd like to chip in my idea for the EMP weapon. I think that it could affect different tiers of electronics differently. For the highest price ones, they would be almost or nearly immune to the EMPs. The next level down would take minor damage (if any) but mess with the yolol values for a...

Quickplay Mode: Or How to Retain Players that Don't Have the Patience for the Main Game

Preface: This topic very likely has been discussed before, but I can't seem to find any dedicated threads on it. After watching a few of the videos that were released by CA members I seem to getting this impression of players not enjoying the grind so much in the early part of the game. Keep...

I think their should be ship mounted flame throwers

I guess I meant something like thermite, but it doesn't really matter much, like Meetbolio said.

I think their should be ship mounted flame throwers

On the physics of the flamethrowers: maybe the fuel and oxidizer are somehow "magimagnetically" attracted to allow for better burns and more stickiness to endos. Their use on ships could be better used as area denial for raiding parties. First, get the crew to safe places and then toast the...

Can a rocket inherit the speed of a spaceship?

I think it will be fun to try out firing a rocket pod full of rockets bolted to the launcher to see if you can go faster than the limit, or at least hit it. Seems like a mystery for the Bolt Crackers.

Ship Repair and Recharge in Ship Storage Menu

That's a reasonable standpoint. There should be a way for you to repair your ships without hassle, ie. a station repair mechanic. I also think if you are willing to wait a bit longer, pay less, and support fellow players that repair businesses should be viable too.

Ship Repair and Recharge in Ship Storage Menu

I think we agree on this point. I just suggest that repairs are done manually for cheap, and through stations at a greater cost. I think fighting will be important and fun, but if everyone can too easily repair their ships, then the economy would once again be in peril.

Ship Repair and Recharge in Ship Storage Menu

I can see that (personally I enjoy that kind of work). That's where I think repair shops, or for bigger companies, a team of engineers. I think you could hire people to fix up your ships for you. Once you have more than one ship, it shouldn't be too troublesom to have one in the shop being...

    Stone Age Battle?

In the developer battle, it seemed clear enough for me. The weapon ranges and ship speeds aren't really great enough to have combat take place at the distances that make visibility that much of an issue from what we've seen so far.

Ship Repair and Recharge in Ship Storage Menu

I think good engineering forethought will make repairs less bothersom since there should be hatches and maintenance walkways. Also, I think many players will find repairs an enjoyable part of the game. Maybe combat should be a special event. There are other games if you want to just fight over...

    Stone Age Battle?

Maybe clearly colored ships would then make identifying friend or foe easier. Think sports team jerseys, or WWI fighter planes.

    Hype thread!

How am I going to finish these lab reports with all the stuff about to be released tomorrow? Do you think my professors will accept that my hype ate my homework?

    space hulk station??

From the FAQ: https://wiki.starbasegame.com/index.php/Frequently_Asked_Questions Seems that despawning is not the biggest issue with the conglomerate ship-station.
