who dominate the battlefield? One super battleship or a group of nimble fighters?

Head on attack on larger ship is not a fact. Just bad piloting and poor ship design. With compact design you can fit 50 fighters (inside) within current predicted size limits (100m). Although that's probably more than you'll ever need. So size limit is not an issue. Crew count is the only real...

    Maintenance

Simple damage over time without logical reason and way to avoid it with smart engineering? No thank you. We already have battle damage, manually reloaded weapons, fuel rods and coolant cells. Also possibly in the future corrosive nebulas or other space debris chewing at outer plating.

    Public transportation navigation?

Yes. It tells yolol relative position of transmitters/beacons, then it's matter of translating it into usable navigation commands.

    Can the engine be tilted?

It has nothing to do with yolol. Currently thrusters won't start unless they're attached directly to main ship frame. Or if they start, they'll instantly rip off rotors. Technically possible (without thrusters), but not practical. ATM rotors and hinges don't have cable socket on the rotating...

Starbase Progress Notes: Week 16 (2020)

None of the weapons are hitscan. Railcannon has something around 1200m/s. Laser around 900, ac around 800, pc around 600, rockets around 250. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. Writing from memory.

    Public transportation navigation?

They're reworking it ATM, because it was causing some problems. We'll get it back at some point. Ra ragefinders are already working. And you even got two types: simple rangefinder and laser designator for torpedoes that doubles as RF.

    Public transportation navigation?

It uses legacy transmitter tech as navigation beacons and set of rangefinders for landing.

    Skin Panels

They're made of 1x1cm voxels. 12x12 is just smallest common denominator for most parts.

    Endoskeleton questions.

It is planned. Devs mentioned salvaging limbs from dead bodies, as well as "reviving" killed torsos. Most likely they haven't started working on that yet.

    space hulk station??

100 player limit apply only to player characters. And it's old number that may already be changed. There is no limit to the number of ships. And they do not despawn when you log off. Thy stay persistently in the universe. Only way to despawn them is using dedicated station module (landing...

Will one efficient design suppress all creativity?

Hope dies last :) I'm not saying that gun boxes won't be meta. Maybe it will be. I'm merely stating that combination of core mechanics in SB is something that never happened before in video game. So stating that thee meta will be exactly the same as in other games is huge misconception. FtD...

Will one efficient design suppress all creativity?

I wouldn't be so sure about it, as there is a lot of difference in core mechanics. RC doesn't have any internal components, so guns and movement are the only thing that matters. It's DPS vs HP, rather than armour vs penetration. XO has some internals, but they are so easy to hide under/behind...

Starbase Progress Notes: Week 14 (2020)

Each box thruster uses up fuel rod in around 30h. So you need 2-4 per thruster, depending on top speed. 36 main thrusters (+16 manoeuvring box thrusters that we'll ignore for now) means ~70-140 fuel rods. Quick glance shows 116 rods.

    Tether Cables

Rope physics are tricky. Also we already have tractor beam doing the same work, just in slightly more abstract way.

    Warning Sensors

There is no fire or radiation yet. And there are ways to detect leaking pipes - same as irl, just monitor unusually high flow rate. Rest falls under enemy detection category, and as such is quite subjective. There's many people who are against automatic spotting.

New guy here and I got some questions.

    1. You can attach pipes and cables to any part you want that is rigidly connected. So bare frames are ok, but can't pass cables through hinges, turntables, ect. 2. AFAIK there is some amount that is enough (2 plates?), and more won't give you any advantage. Alsod the more bolts you place close...

Is asymmetric spacecraft easy to build?

FCU+MCU does balancing for you, no need to manually adjust thruster output. But as you said - unbalanced ship (either by bad design or battle damage) will loose speed or efficiency.

I want to connect the turrets in series and make up a larger one with many small ones. Don't know if it is feasible at this stage

You can't place turrets on turrets ATM. You can try to build large, multi-stage turrets using rails. But we don't know if they are sturdy enough to be used on moving ships.

Is asymmetric spacecraft easy to build?

That apply to symmetric craft as well. So it's invalid argument. Symmetry makes it easier and faster to design crafts. Especially if you use more planes of symmetry. But both can be effective, if done right.

    Can the engine be tilted?

It can be tilted. But only at fixed angle, no thrust vectoring.
